What is Media?

So I was gone for the first week of the semster. I dont really have an idea whats going on right now but I'll take a stab at the topic. From what I have gathered I need to ask some people what the Media is. The majority of the people that I asked said Media was Television. Some also said the Internet. I think those are both good choices of Media but I also know there is more to it than that. Personally I think the Media is anything that provides influence on an individual or anything that provides info of what is going on in the outside world.
